Recreating a
scatter plot
January 22, 2025
This week I recreated a scatter plot from Bloomberg about the competition between Chinese and Japanese carmakers. Yasufumi Saito, Jin Wu, and Nicholas Takahashi participated in its creation.

Highlights
Another scatter plot for the challenge. I liked it because it was different. So far, I have not done one where each element had two points with a connection. Although replicating the data was messy, I liked the final result.
- I got stressed when I saw so many circles stepping on each other and thought "I'm going to arrange them to make them look better". But that's just the way the data is and I shouldn't manipulate it just to "improve the appearance". In the end, the goal of the challenge is to replicate, without adding or subtracting (unless there is a specific reason).
- If I gave up on anything, it was the arrows. At first, I was able to replicate them because I had only two circles, but then when I added more data, the arrows didn't look right in all the circles. No matter how hard I tried, in some, it looked right, and in others, it looked wrong. So I have the task of investigating it.
