Recreating a map
November 20, 2024This week I recreated a map from New York Times on the U.S. presidential election results.

Highlights
It's already the third map I visualize during the challenge and it was a complicated one: a lot of calculations and details. This recreation is a reduced version of the original, which has more features, don't miss the opportunity to look at it. I'm happy with the recreation I achieved, maybe in the future, I'll be able to include the rest of the interactions/features.
- I took a few minutes to review the data, even though I understand the U.S. electoral system, there was one sum that didn't add up until I realized: WHY DO MAINE AND NEBRASKA SPLIT THEIR VOTES? It wasn't very clear when I realized that, to avoid adding more data, I went for the easy way: totalKamalaEV + 2
- Unlike other recreations, I did the calculations for the main data: total votes, percentage, and electoral votes... I must have made a mistake transcribing the votes of one state or another since the total is higher than in the original visualization
- It's one of the first times that I added a table inside a tooltip, I loved how it turned out and how I was able to recreate the level of detail
